Meeting the needs of children and families affected by HIV/AIDS

Despite recent sharp declines in the number of Chicago infants born with the AIDS virus, the disease still adversely affects hundreds of young children. HIV infection continues to increase among women of childbearing age, particularly in communities of color. In addition to health issues, HIV/AIDS affected families struggle with poverty, joblessness, single parenthood and other issues. This places children at high risk for homelessness and neglect.

Children's Place at Vision House addresses these issues by providing specialized day care and early childhood learning for approximately 60 HIV/AIDS affected pre-school age children living in the Grant Boulevard neighborhood of Chicago's South Side. The new facility will also offer supportive services for HIV/AIDS affected families. Clients include children and families who live at Vision House, a residential program for persons living with HIV/AIDS, as well as others in the community affected by HIV/AIDS.

The site is adjacent to the Vision House apartments.
